Ballesteros doing 'well' after surgery, leaves ICU
|

Seve Ballesteros was released from intensive care on Wednesday, a day after the five-time major winner underwent his fourth brain surgery to deal with a cancerous tumor.
Officials at Madrid's La Paz hospital said Ballesteros was "well" but would remain hospitalized after doctors implanted a valve to drain fluid from his brain on Tuesday.
Doctors also repaired a bone defect from one of the procedures the Spaniard has undergone since surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor on Oct. 24.

Brooks one back of first round Q-school leaders

Major Manning and Craig Kanada ran off birdie strings on different PGA West courses on their way to 7-under 65s and shares of the lead in the first of six rounds at the U.S. PGA Tour qualifying tournament on Wednesday.
Manning, who made it through two stages of Q-school to reach the finals, had five straight birdies in the middle of his round on the TPC Stadium Course, while Kanada started his round with six straight birdies on the Nicklaus Tournament Course.

Choi wins Skins Game, takes home $415,000

K.J. Choi holed an 11-foot birdie putt worth $270,000 on the 18th hole Sunday to win the 26th Skins Game with $415,000.
Stephen Ames missed a nine-footer that would have tied the hole and forced the foursome including Phil Mickelson and Rocco Mediate into a playoff.
Instead, Choi's putt gave him $340,000 for Sunday's nine holes and made him the fifth international player to win the title.

Scott out of Australian PGA due to surfing accident
|

Adam Scott injured his knee in a surfing accident and has withdrawn from this week's Australian PGA championship.
Scott told tournament officials on Tuesday that he hurt his right kneecap at nearby Coolum Beach on Sunday. His manager said scans will be conducted, but that Scott, a longtime surfer, is still hopeful of playing in next week's Australian Open in Sydney.
The 28-year-old Australian golfer has six titles on the U.S. PGA Tour and six on the European Tour.

Sweden tops Spain by 3 shots to win World Cup

Henrik Stenson of Sweden knew the contending teams in the World Cup of Golf had their "hot rounds" during the tournament. He hoped the Swedes would have their moment on Sunday.
They did.
Robert Karlsson and Stenson birdied the first hole - and added eight more without dropping a shot - to lift Sweden to its second World Cup title, shooting a 9-under 63 in alternate-shot play to beat Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal by three strokes.

Pampling wins Australian Masters in playoff
|

Rod Pampling won the Australian Masters on Sunday, beating Australian countryman Marcus Fraser with a par on the third playoff hole.
Both players parred the first two playoff holes, with Pampling holing a testy 5-footer on the first extra hole. On the second, Fraser made a 20-footer for par after hitting his approach into a bunker.
Pampling closed with a 5-under 67 to match Fraser (65) at 12-under 276 on the Huntingdale Golf Club course.
