Avery apologizes for ex-girlfriends' comment

Dallas Stars instigator Sean Avery apologized Wednesday for comments about his former girlfriends that led to an indefinite NHL suspension.
"I would like to sincerely apologize for my off-color remarks to the press yesterday from Calgary," Avery said in a statement obtained by SportingNews.com.
"I should not have made those comments and I recognize that they were inappropriate. It was a bad attempt to build excitement for the game, but I am now acutely aware of how hurtful my actions were.

Man falls from upper deck in Ottawa
|

A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital after he fell about 25 feet from the upper deck of Scotiabank Place during the second intermission of the Ottawa Senators' victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday night.
According to witnesses, the man sailed headfirst past and over a few stunned onlookers in the rows ahead of his seat before clearing the low railing at the bottom of the third level and falling onto a row of seats in the level immediately below.

Laviolette out as Hurricanes coach; Maurice in

A person familiar with the decision says Peter Laviolette is out as coach of the Carolina Hurricanes.
The team scheduled a news conference Wednesday to announce a coaching change, and the person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press that the announcement was Laviolette's dismissal.
The person requested anonymity because the official announcement had not yet been made.
