Bob Tway's son advances at US Amateur

Kevin Tway took another step toward establishing himself, while a former NCAA champion made an earlier-than-expected exit from the U.S. Amateur.
The son of former PGA champion Bob Tway defeated Philip Francis 2-up Wednesday in the first round of match play, winning a matchup of former U.S. junior amateur champions on the renowned No. 2 course at Pinehurst Resort.
"My dad's making me play real smart," Tway said.

Pettersson wins first PGA tournament in two years

Carl Pettersson won his hometown event for his first PGA Tour victory in two years, shooting a 2-under 68 on Sunday for a two-stroke victory in the Wyndham Championship.
The local favorite, former North Carolina State player and member of the tournament's board had three birdies during a four-hole stretch on the back nine, finished at 21-under 259 and earned $918,000.
Scott McCarron, who briefly led midway through the final round, shot a 68 and to finished second.

Funk wins JELD-WEN Tradition by 3

Even with a widening lead in the final found of the JELD-WEN Tradition, Fred Funk pretended he was trailing.
"We were going down the second fairway and my caddie, Mark (Long), said 'Let's say you are four behind,"' Funk said. "We were trying to make it as if we were behind all day. Don't protect anything and fire at all the flags."
The aggressive Funk won his first Champions Tour major title, closing with a 3-under 69 on Sunday for three-stroke victory over Mike Goodes at the Crosswater Club.

Hull earns first LPGA title

Australia's Katherine Hull won the Canadian Women's Open on Sunday for her first LPGA Tour title, taking advantage of Yani Tseng's final-round meltdown for a one-stroke victory at Ottawa Hunt.
The 26-year-old Hull, six strokes behind Tseng at the start of the round, shot a 3-under 69 to finish at 11-under 277. Se Ri Pak closed with a 72 to finish second, and Tseng's 77 left her two strokes behind at 9 under.

Hanson wins SAS Masters by 1 shot

Peter Hanson shot 1-over 71 in cold, windy and wet conditions and held on to win the SAS Masters on Sunday for his second career European PGA Tour victory.
Hanson, the first Swede to win the event since Jesper Parnevik 10 years ago, finished at 9-under 271 on the Arlandastad course north of Stockholm.
Pelle Edberg, another Swede who was Hanson's playing partner in the last group, tied for second with Nick Dougherty of England. Edberg and Dougherty shot 70.

Wie questioned again over critics' comments

Michelle Wie fended off yet another round of criticism before her final LPGA Tour appearance of the year in the Canadian Women's Open.
"Everyone has their own opinion of what I should do, but I think that it's my life," Wie said. "I know there might be wrong decisions that I make and there might be right decisions that I make, but they're decisions that I make for myself.
"And I think the only decision I can make is to be 100 per cent supportive of myself and not doubt myself at all.

Donald has surgery, done for the season
|

Luke Donald has undergone surgery on his left wrist and will miss the remainder of the season, officially ending any hopes of playing on the Ryder Cup team for Europe.
Donald was forced to miss the final two majors of the year. He had surgery Monday in New York to repair a tendon injury in his wrist. He had hoped that rest would allow it to strengthen, but there was little progress.
The 30-year-old from England has played on the last two Ryder Cup teams and has a 5-1-1 record.
